Expeditionary Learning
- There are over 150 Expeditionary Learning schools across the country.
- Our students learn to stand up for what they believe to be right.
- EL schools help students discover the the excitement & joy of learning.
BCS is a member of the national network of Expeditionary Learning Schools, which promotes rigorous and engaging curriculum; active, inquiry-based pedagogy; and a school culture that demands and teaches compassion and good citizenship. The ELS approach is experiential and project-based, and uses learning expeditions to involve students in original research, with experts, to create high-quality products for audiences beyond the classroom.
We encourage our students to think in many ways:
- by allowing them to choose their own books to read
- by offering choices of writing topics and choices of selective classes
- by encouraging discussion, debate, and reflection in all classes
- by getting them out of school to museums, colleges, work-sites and natural environments
- by bringing in experts in fields related to our studies

"Teaching in Expeditionary Learning schools fosters curiosity about the world by creating learning situations that provide something important to think about, time to experiment, and time to make sense of what is observed."
