HOW TO MARCH

HOW TO PRODUCE YOUR OWN COLLEGE MARCH

Your College March can be as simple or as complex as your school community wants it to be. Click here to find directions for two "levels" of College Marches: the simpler College March 1.0 and the more advanced College March 2.0.

We have also included a sample media release, a sample invitation to VIPs, and a sample run-of-show, which outlines in detail the timeline of a typical College March. Each of these documents can be found and downloaded from the right sidebar of this page.

New schools often ask what our seniors put into the envelopes that they march to the post office or mailbox (since most colleges now require that the college application form itself be delivered online). The answer varies from school to school, and often from student to student, but the contents should always be connected in some way to the college application process: from SAT/ACT scores, to application fee waivers, to thank you letters to admissions officers, to recommendation letters. We've even had seniors who felt it was essential to send letters to their younger siblings about the importance of the college application process they were undergoing.

Please let us at NYC Outward Bound Schools know if you intend to join the March so we can include your school in our media outreach. Simply send an email to Paola Vita at pvita@nycoutwardbound.org and let us know the name and location of your school, as well as the date and time of your March.
