BELHS, which opened in 2004, provides a model of challenging academics built on project-based learning, character development through individual and group support, and preparation for higher learning. Instruction is student-centered, connecting academics with authentic experiences and adventure learning outside school walls. Within the school, students are part of a safe, caring environment where all have the opportunity to learn and succeed. Extracurricular options include leadership activities, artistic clubs and sports teams.

Expectations are high for every BELHS student. Our rich and varied curriculum meets college entrance requirements and provides students with a broad range of choices upon graduation. In-depth study, field research and sharing of work with public audiences all motivate students to achieve more academically than they ever thought possible. A college advisor works with students to arrange internships and college visits, and facilitates the college and financial aid application process.
