Our small Expeditionary Learning high school, launched in 2005, has a special focus on health and fitness—topics of special concern in the South Bronx, where many of our students live. Those subjects are part of our academic curriculum, which meets college entrance requirements, and of each school day, as we incorporate daily physical exercise and health and nutrition topics. Outward Bound courses, including urban expeditions and a backpacking experience, are also woven into the school year.

As in every Expeditionary Learning school, we give prominence to challenging, in-depth academics, and every student is expected to set goals and meet challenges head on. Our staff works with students individually and in groups, especially the small advisory crews, to help each one achieve more than he or she thought possible. Partnerships with community organizations like Harbor Conservatory, El Museo del Barrio and Bronx Lebanon Hospital, and strong parental involvement, help us to realize our mission of creating healthy, informed and college-bound community activists.
