School Designer Published in Journal of Experiential Education >

Meg Riordan, NYC Outward Bound School Designer and our Regional Director of Instruction, has just been published in the summer issue of the Journal of Experiential Education. Her co-authored article, Wearing the Student Hat: Experiential Professional Development in Expeditionary Learning Schools, is available through the Association for Experiential Education. Riordan’s recent book, Going to Scale with New School Designs: Reinventing High School, was co-authored with Joseph P. McDonald and Emily Klein and is available through Teachers College Press.

BCS WINS 2011 IMAGINATION AWARD FROM LINCOLN CENTER INSTITUTE >

Our Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies has just won the 2011 Imagination Award from the Lincoln Center Institute! The Institute is the educational cornerstone of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and is a global leader in education and the arts. BCS will be honored at Lincoln Center on March 8 alongside the Honorable Joel Klein. Congratulations to the entire school community.

BCS STUDENTS LOBBY CONGRESS ON PATRIOT ACT >

Today, seniors from our Brooklyn School of Collaborative Studies went to DC and lobbied Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Representatives Grimm, Velasquez and Towns. Students presented their views on the Patriot Act, which is anticipated to be debated by Congress again this month. Shahid Buttar, head of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee, also gave them a short lobbying primer in Senator Gillibrand’s office!

SCHOOL RUNNER WINS RUNNER OF THE YEAR >

Congratulations to WHEELS student Franklin Ventura, who has been awarded New York Road Runners “Runner of the Year” award! This honor is given out to athletes who not only demonstrate athletic prowess, but who also serve as inspirations to other runners because of their dedication and improvement over the past year. Franklin will be honored at NYRR Club Night on March 3rd.
