Crew Adventure

Our signature overnight Crew Adventure program takes place at Sharpe Reservation, our wilderness campsite in Fishkill, NY. 

At Sharpe, students sleep in small structured shelters and cook their own meals. This program encourages group connection and collaboration, as well as individual leadership, perseverance and initiative through activities such as:

• Hiking
• Low ropes courses
• Camp craft skills like cooking and fire-building
• Team building initiatives 

Schools can also book a Crew Day Adventure (no overnight), which includes a full-day trip to Sharpe Reservation with low ropes course activities.

These programs are best experienced in small groups, teams, or within the Crew structure — NYC Outward Bound Schools’ signature advisory structure, typically comprised of 8-15 students and an adult advisor.

What is Provided?

• Course Director and instructional staff
• All meals & snacks
• Lodging
• All activity equipment
• All outdoor gear — jackets, boots, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc.

Note: Transportation to and from Sharpe Reservation is not included. This must be provided by the client.

Paperwork Required:

Both Medical & Liability Release forms require parent signature and need to be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the program start date.

Sample Low Ropes Course Activities

Whale Watch – This activity takes place on a large platform balanced on a central point. The entire group must figure out how and where to stand on the platform without letting either end of the platform touch the ground.

Nitro Crossing – This challenge requires each member of the team to swing from one platform (about 1 foot off the ground) to another platform (about 12 feet away) without touching the ground. This initiative highlights the groups’ problem-solving abilities and communication skills. 

Spider Web – The whole team must get through a human-sized vertical web without touching any strands. This challenge requires a great deal of trust and start-to-finish planning in order to be successful.
