Outward Bound USA has awarded Paola Vita, Chief Advancement Officer of NYC Outward Bound Schools, its prestigious Joshua Miner Award. The award is the highest honor that Outward Bound USA can bestow upon a staff member from across its vast national network of Outward Bound centers. Vita shares the award with Peals Wrobel, a longtime instructor at Hurricane Island.
Our Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School has partnered with Capital One Bank and the Heart of America Foundation to build a new College Access Room, which will house the school’s new College Counselor and Alumni Coordinator. The Room also houses a library of college readiness and financial literacy books, and students will use the space to research careers, study for entrance exams, and complete college and financial aid applications as they pursue higher education.
Our Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies’ class of 2012 has earned over $5.2 million dollars in college scholarships and grants, which includes 41 full-tuition scholarships. The 81 students who comprise the class also enjoyed a 100% college acceptance rate and will be attending colleges such as Cornell, Bard, Colby, DePauw, FIT, Colgate and Sarah Lawrence.
