It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear friend and former staff member, Julia Forman on December 1, 2020. As our Alumni Manager, Julia was loved by all who worked with her. She served as a mentor to many individuals in the NYC Outward Bound Schools community. Most recently, she held the position of Deputy Director for Career Readiness at New Visions.

We invite you to leave a message or a memory below in honor of Julia. These will be gathered and shared to celebrate her exquisite life and the many ways she contributed to our community.

Julia had a wonderful impact on everyone she worked with — she was always full of joy, support and wisdom for her students and her colleagues. I will always remember her infectious smile which greeted me whenever I swung by her desk or joined her for a meeting. I miss her and know her students miss her as well.

Julia was brilliant in all ways. I would watch her in awe when working with both staff and students alike. With her, the impossible was possible. We would have an idea, get excited and within a short amount of time, Julia would turn to me (or anyone she was working with) with follow up thoughts, data and strategy, all the while keeping individual students in mind, inspiring her to reach hundreds of students across networks (we worked together at both New Visions and NYC Outward Bound Schools). In addition to a great colleague, she was a friend. A very dear friend who I miss tremendously. She was someone who saw right through me, and I believe many others. Sending all my love to her husband, John, to her family and to her best friends and close colleagues.

Julia was a lovely person that I enjoyed working with as a College Counselor. Our meetings would always bring laughter, happiness, and such joy because of her presence. I was fortunate to be paired with her during many exercises during which we just laughed uncontrollably. I was even more grateful for her outgoing support and dedication she displayed helping so many young men and women though the college process. I am deeply saddened to hear of her loss but I do know that God obtained a beautiful angel. My prayers, thoughts and love go to her family and loved ones…  You are missed my friend.
