Drawing upon Outward Bound’s 60 years of preeminence in experiential education, NYC Outward Bound Schools offers a range of Outdoor Adventure programming for students and educators. These programs strengthen community, belonging, collaboration, reflection and leadership and help bring the central lesson of Outward Bound to life―that with the right mix of challenge and support, all individuals, regardless of background or circumstance, can achieve more than they thought possible.

Full-Day Community-Building: Community Connect

Offered during our spring and fall seasons, this 5-hour program builds on the half-day experience and is centered around a participant-directed learning exploration that allows students and staff to build a sense of belonging within their school community, collaborate with one another, take initiative, and exercise ownership over their learning. This programs takes place in a city park (e.g. Central Park, Prospect Park, Flushing Meadow Park, Corona Park).

Half-Day Community-Building: Crew Connect

This 2.5-hour program helps foster relationships among participants and create a stronger sense of belonging within and connection to their team or Crew. During the spring and fall seasons, this program takes place on-site at the participating school, in a school yard or other outdoor space.

Crew Climbing

This 2.5-hour program helps participants step out of their comfort zones and develop focus, commitment, tenacity and trust as they scale the tallest outdoor rock climbing wall in New York City, located on the back wall of NYC Outward Bound Schools’ headquarters in Long Island City!

Crew Basecamp

Crew Basecamp is our signature wilderness-based experience for Crews of Network School students. This 3-day trip takes place at our basecamp in Fishkill, NY and offers opportunities for students to challenge themselves and support one another as they take on team building activities along with high and low ropes courses.

Half-Day Community-Building: Crew Connect

From mid-January through the end of March, we offer half-day community-building programs on-site at schools in indoor locations like gyms, libraries or cafeterias. NYC Outward Bound Schools also has conference space available for smaller groups. This 2.5-hour program helps foster relationships among participants and create a stronger sense of belonging within and connection to their team or Crew.

Indoor Climbing

Students can continue to climb indoors throughout the winter months thanks to our local partners at Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge and The Cliffs at LIC. This is a great opportunity for students to hone their climbing skills, challenge themselves to reach new heights, and become closer as a Crew.
