Two NYC Outward Bound Schools students were awarded four-year scholarships to attend the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) of their choice as part of the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Gray Foundation NYC Scholars Program. Jana Pollard, a recent graduate of West End Secondary School, will be attending Clark Atlanta, and Ramat Olasunkanmi, a recent graduate of Kurt Hahn, will be attending Howard University. Jana and Ramat were selected from among 79 students nominated by the Gray Foundation’s 27 college access partners (including NYC Outward Bound Schools), and are part of the inaugural cohort of UNCF Gray NYC Scholars. The scholarship covers up to $50,000 annually and also provides student support services — a college success coach, online learning communities, and an HBCU mentor network — to help ensure college persistence and pave the way for future success.

We are so grateful for the continued support of our partners at the Gray Foundation and to UNCF for believing in equitable education in NYC public schools, and in the potential of our students!
