Launch Students featured on News 12
Launch students walked from their school to Restoration Plaza to raise awareness of gun violence in their community.
Launch, the only charter school in our network, serves approximately 300 students in grades 6 – 8 in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Weeksville/Crown Heights. Like all NYC Outward Bound Schools, Launch emphasizes teamwork, field trips, and social action. They also support a powerful culture of literacy, and challenge their students to read 50 books a year.
Despite serving a particularly high-needs student body (26% of Launch students have IEPs, significantly more than most charter schools), Launch graduates enroll in high schools with higher graduation rates and are 76% more likely to graduate high school than other high school students in their school district.
Founded in 2012, Launch students and teachers are guided by six core values that support quality work and character in students, and support lives of choice, service, and achievement. These values, or Habits of Work, are compassion, craftsmanship, wonder, accountability, mindfulness, and perseverance.
